URDU-THE EFFECTS OF SHAH WALIULLAH’S MOVEMENT AND HIS ISLAMIC SERVICE ON URDU LITERATURE: AN ANALYTICAL STUDY.

Abstract

Shah Waliullah Dehlavi (1702/3-1762) was a renowned great Muslim reformist of the 18th- century Indian subcontinent. He pioneered an Islamic revivalist movement. He took various steps to protect the Muslims in India, Started various movements of reforms and renewal. At the same time, he made a realistic assessment of the protection of Islamic values, Political changes and emerging powers in India and made plans for the survival of the nation and identity. His movement also contributed literary fields as well. This article highlights the impact of Shah Waliullah’s movement on the Urdu literature. Through the Urdu translations of Arabic and Persian writings of Shah Waliullah and those associated with his movement, the vocabulary of these languages was transferred to Urdu. These books are also important in the sense that other authors wrote new books based on them or added to the repertoire of Urdu literature through their Urdu translations.
